Frequently Asked Questions
There are a lot of yoga poses I can’t do. Can I still do a teacher training program and teach Yoga?
Absolutely! There is no requirement to be able to perform each pose. However you still will learn instruction in how to teach poses you cannot physically do, and it’s inevitable that you will get better at your physical practice as well as the other practices through the course of your training. So you may surprise yourself.
What physical style of Yoga does the training focus on?
Trainees will learn how to teach asana based on Vinyasa, Astanga, Hatha, Yin and Restorative styles of Yoga. Trainees will graduate with a unique blend of Yoga modified to suit their students’ needs.
I want to do the training, but I will be out of town one weekend or think I might miss a day. Can I still do it?
To obtain a diploma and letter of completion you must attend 100% of the classes to comply with Yoga Alliance requirements. However, it's understandable that you may not be able to foresee every conflict. Should you have to miss a training day, you will be required to make arrangements with the instructor to cover materials missed and still complete all required homework assignments on time. It is not recommended that you miss more than one day of training. This indeed is a commitment, but one that will give back to you a thousand fold for the rest of your life. Through the discipline comes the freedom. If you already know you will be unavailable on a particular weekend let’s discuss before you enroll. Make up sessions may be done at an additional $40 per hour, however not all material can be made up outside of the classroom.
Outside of the training hours, what is the time commitment required?
Expect to spend at least 2 hours between weekends on written assignments, reading assignments and other homework. The homework is designed to support the material covered in class and help you integrate what is presented into your own practice and teaching. You will also be required to complete 20 hours of your own personal practice. This can be done at Transitions Yoga or another studio. You will be given a 20 class pass to attend classes at Transitions Yoga while you are attending teacher training. You may also choose to complete these hours at another studio at your own expense.
I am not sure I want to actually be a Yoga teacher, but I’m still interested. Is this still something I should pursue?
There is no requirement to become a teacher after having completed the program. And without a doubt, one does not need to teach Yoga to get a tremendous amount out of this training. Yoga is a practice that can be a lens for how you live your whole life. Doing a teacher training is an excellent way to empower yourself, align your life with your higher purpose, and keep yourself evolving at every level.
What is Yoga Alliance?
Yoga Alliance is an organization that was started in 1999 as a way to create nationally recognized standards for yoga teachers and yoga teacher trainings. More and more yoga studios across the country are requiring their teachers to register with the Yoga Alliance, either as the 200 or 500 hour level. Yoga Alliance registration, however, is not a legal requirement for teaching yoga. Currently there are no legal certification requirements to be a yoga teacher.
Will I be qualified to teach Yoga after this training?
Yes! With the successful completion of all requirements of the program, including contact hours, homework, and exam, you will receive your diploma and certification at the 200-hour level. You will be qualified to teach thereafter if that becomes part of your path.

Student reviews
This was the most transformative experience. I walked into teacher training looking for a better understanding of yoga. I walked out with so much knowledge, confidence and with a better understanding of myself. I am forever grateful for the teachers. The level of support and compassion they gave me throughout training was amazing. Classes were insightful and fun. Lots of laughs and a few tears. My heart is so full and I’m ready to implement everything I have learned, not only on the mat, but in everyday life.
Loved every bit of this experience. Forever changed my life!
