Matrika Yoga School
About Matrika Yoga School
Our Methodology: A Path of Self-Discovery
At Matrika Yoga, we teach from experience and the integration of various Yoga traditions, Ayurveda, and other Eastern philosophies and therapeutic disciplines. Our school offers classes that incorporate the wisdom of Iyengar Yoga, Traditional Hatha-Kriya Yoga, and Vinyasa Krama, as well as retreats, training programs, and intensive workshops in Spain, India, and Latin America.
We do not mix traditions; rather, we teach from a perspective that clearly distinguishes the different methodologies, allowing each student to create their own Sadhana, a self-discovery practice. The philosophical foundation of Kashmir Shaivism and Tibetan Buddhism plays a crucial role in shaping our worldview.
A methodology that draws from diverse sources of knowledge.
At Matrika Yoga, we combine a traditional and contemporary approach to Yoga, integrating various traditions, philosophies, and therapeutic perspectives.
Our teaching is based on experiential practice, in-depth study, and the adaptation of Yoga to individual needs.
Yoga Traditions
Iyengar Yoga
A method focused on postural alignment and the use of props to deepen each asana with safety and precision. Developed by B.K.S. Iyengar, this branch of Hatha Yoga goes beyond simple alignment, serving as a comprehensive system that encompasses both physical and energetic anatomy. Its therapeutic approach makes it an accessible and transformative practice. [Read more about Iyengar Yoga here.]
Traditional Hatha Yoga (Bihar School of Yoga)
A comprehensive system integrating asana (postures), pranayama (breath control), meditation, and purification techniques to harmonize body, mind, and spirit. It teaches us to balance our solar side (sympathetic nervous system) with our lunar side (parasympathetic nervous system), uniting sky and earth, masculine and feminine within us.
Kriya Yoga
Considered the bridge between Hatha Yoga and Tantra Yoga practices, Kriya Yoga uses advanced breathing techniques, concentration, and purification to activate the energy centers (chakras and marma points) and facilitate access to higher states of consciousness.
Classical Tantra Yoga
Rooted in the sacred scriptures of Tantra, this practice deepens the integration of body, mind, and energy, allowing for a direct experience of the Self through meditation and techniques that expand consciousness.
Philosophies & Worldviews
Kashmir Shaivism (Non-Dual Tantra of Kashmir)
A philosophical and meditative tradition that emphasizes presence, bodily awareness, and the expansion of the Self through direct experience. This tradition invites us to perceive reality as it is, without duality, integrating the divine into every aspect of life. Our school is inspired by the teachings of Swami Laksmanjoo and his disciples, including Amit Raina, Christian Pisano, Bettina Bäumer, and Mark Dyczkowski.
Tibetan Buddhism (Mahayana)
A tradition offering a contemplative and meditative vision, focused on cultivating compassion, self-transcendence, and wisdom. We draw from the teachings of Lama Yeshe and Geshe Dorgi, as well as practices developed in renowned centers such as Tushita Meditation Center (Dharamsala) and Kopan Monastery (Nepal).
Therapeutic Integration
We complement our teaching with principles from Ayurveda, Osteopathy, and Psychology, understanding Yoga not only as a physical practice but also as a profound tool for healing and personal transformation.
Ayurveda
A traditional Indian medical system that seeks to balance body, mind, and energy through nutrition, daily routines, herbal medicine, and purification practices. Its holistic approach considers each individual according to their unique constitution (doshas: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha) and promotes a lifestyle in harmony with nature.
Osteopathy
A therapeutic approach based on understanding the body as a functional unit, where structure and function are interconnected. Through manual techniques, osteopathy works to restore balance in the musculoskeletal, nervous, and visceral systems, supporting self-healing and overall harmony in the body.
