The University of Minnesota's Hatha Yoga Teachers Education & Training is offered through the Earl E. Bakken Center. The Center offers three academic courses in Hatha Yoga, a popular type of Yoga that combines Asana (postures), Pranayama (breath expansion), and relaxation. These courses are based on exercise science, Yogic philosophy, and scientific evidence. They offer a high-quality, yoga teacher training program in a resource-rich academic setting.
o CSPH 5322 Foundations of Hatha Yoga: Alignment and Movement Principles (3 credits)
o CSPH 5323 Hatha Yoga Philosophy, Lifestyle, and Ethics (3 credits)
o CSPH 5324 Hatha Yoga Teaching Principles and Methodology (3 credits)
The University of Minnesota is a Registered Yoga School (RYS) with Yoga Alliance, which designates this teacher training program as one which follows Yoga Alliance’s standards. Students who complete a verified training with this school may be eligible to register with Yoga Alliance as Registered Yoga Teachers (RYTs). Students interested in coursework, but not certification, are also encouraged to register. Community members who are not enrolled students at the University of Minnesota may register as visiting/non-degree seeking students.
