About this retreat
Since 2009, Sunrise Yoga’s Teacher Training
programs have offered aspiring yoga instructors and students who simply wish to
study at a deeper level the opportunity to expand their yoga knowledge beyond
what’s possible in weekly class offerings. We provide opportunities to Clemmons, Winston-Salem, and the surrounding communities of North Carolina. Sunrise Yoga is a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga School (RYS) offering
the following advanced study opportunities:
- Certified 200-Hour Teacher Training Program for Yoga Alliance registry
- Certified 300-Hour Teacher Training Program for Yoga Alliance registry
- YA Certified Continuing Education opportunities to keep your certification current
Programs are offered in weekend workshop formats, designed to avoid conflict with the traditional workweek. Each session is a blend of asana practice, lecture, classroom discussion, reading assignment review, as well as practice-teaching opportunities for those who aspire to teach.
Working with an alignment-based approach to yoga, our advance studies programs include:
- Essentials of Hatha Yoga: Asana, Pranayama, Chanting and Meditation practices
- Principles and practices of alignment-based yoga
- Biomechanics of yoga’s fundamental postures
- Anatomy and physiology for the yoga instructor – what you need to know in order to teach safely and effectively
- How to use props – provided during your training - to make yoga postures accessible to all body types with all levels of experience
- The essence of yoga’s ancient and modern texts, from Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras to Iyengar’s Light on Yoga
- The basics of modifying due to issues your student may face
- Ayurveda and Chakras as accompaniments to yoga
Teacher training candidates are also schooled in the protocols of classroom management, including adjusting students, managing special physical limitations, and effective sequencing and language skills for the yoga classroom.
Candidates for the 200-hour program must have at least one year of yoga experience; successful completion of a Yoga Alliance certified 200-hour program is required for enrollment in the 300-hour teacher-training program. Prior mastery of poses is not required. All ages over 18 are welcome, as are all genders and levels of fitness and physical ability.
