About this retreat
Shaktiyoga Align + Flow is a comprehensive school of hatha yoga that offers practitioners a deep, thorough, intelligent, and honoring experience of learning how to become a teacher of yoga.
Shaktiyoga NY 200 hour school teaches the fundamental skills of teaching methodology which include: refined alignment techniques, bio-mechanic anatomy, principles of breath, sequencing asana, the use of themes, philosophy of yoga through a Tantric lens, review of The Yoga Sutras, how to teach beginners, managing a mixed level class, helping students with injuries, Prenatal Yoga, Restorative Yoga, and more.
Teachers come out of Shaktiyoga Align + Flow trainings with a suffused sense of the value of yoga, and increased awareness of self:
"As I began the journey with Julie and with my fellow trainees I was affirmed in my choice: Julie is not only an excellent teacher of yoga - weaving clear instruction into joyful, spirited, and spiritual practice - she is also an incredible teacher of teachers. The training helped me to deepen my own practice and with Julie as my guide make the transition from the seat of the student to that of a teacher, with confidence, grace, and ever-deepening love for the practice. Julie provided me with the support, freedom and tools to find my voice as a teacher. She led me and my fellow trainees through all aspects of teaching yoga - from philosophy to anatomy, to sequencing a class well, to verbal and hands-on adjustments, to using language in the best way possible. Julie offered a complete holistic approach to teaching yoga in a grounded, safe way, with love and deep connection to spirit.
In yoga we often talk about setting our foundation well; teacher training with Julie gave me the ultimate foundation from which to grow. As I begin to teach classes (such fun!) I stand firmly on that foundation knowing I have the tools I need to continue to learn and grow on this path. Julie prepared me to be a confident, knowledgable and smart yoga teacher and I am so grateful to her for the beautiful gift. Thank you!"

"Julie Dohrman is a wonderful teacher trainer and dedicated mentor who always pushed us to deepen our practice, and allow that practice to inform our teaching. Julie created a framework for contemplative practice, and I really appreciated the sacred space for that inquiry and process to happen. Based on her own deep knowledge, Julie struck a great balance between the philosophy of yoga and the physical practice, and how both relate to our daily lives. This teacher training asked us to examine not only ourselves and our own practice, but to also question our common understandings of yoga so that we are able to teach with authenticity and create communities of yoga where practice and embodiment can be a revolutionary act. I find Julie's method of teaching to be a generative example of how we can truly learn through theory and practice, and merge them within our daily lives."
