About this retreat
Maha Shanti School of Yoga offers traditional and classical yoga classes for groups and individuals at all levels, retreats, and yoga teacher training, in the U.S., Mexico, and locations throughout the world.
The founder of Maha Shanti School of Yoga and Vastu School of Yoga and registered member of Yoga Alliance for nearly twenty years, Lal Maharajh has trained yoga instructors for two decades. He serves as Maha Shanti’s director and lead trainer. Lal is honored to be a long-term member of Yoga Alliance. He is committed to fulfilling its high standards for quality teacher training.
Commitment to teaching yoga traces back through our school’s lineage. Our founder Sri Swami Sivananda Maharaj, a medical and an ayurvedic doctor, committed himself and his followers to teaching yoga for full health and wellbeing of others, especially the underserved. Following in the lineage of Swami Sivananda, our classes provide immersion in self-inquiry, breath awareness, concentration, meditation, and silence, in addition to asana practice.
The essence of our lineage and of Maha Shanti School of Yoga is:
SERVE, LOVE, GIVE, PURIFY, MEDITATE, REALIZE.
Sivananda Style follows an integral yoga path, including Bhakti, Karma, Jnana, and Raja. It is referred to as the Royal Path and as the Rishikesh Series. Asanas, practiced in a special sequence, give a complete workout to the body, develop alignment, strength, flexibility, balance and quiet for the mind. This specified asana series prepares practitioners for meditation, the next step on the yogic path.
Lal Maharajh has lived and breathed knowledge of yoga practice, history, and philosophy since his earliest years. He will guide you to deep inquiry, understanding, and competence in yoga classes and in teacher training.
Successful completion of our teacher training program allows you to register as a yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance, RYT. Classes begin with meditation and asana practice. Throughout the day, you learn meditation types and strategies, chants, yoga philosophy, and pranayama (breath) practices. You will study anatomy and physiology as it relates to yoga teaching and assisting future students. And, you will learn how to practice and teach asanas with proper alignment and safety.
